Cyril O’Flaherty

Landscape painter.
Art educator.

Art for me is to catch a fleeting moment in time. Mist rolling on the mountains, the glimmer in a wave, sunbeams and distant horizons, breaking light on the meadows, rain showers passing, to tell our stories, to keep a moment, an eternity in a frame.

Since, as long as I can remember, I have loved colour. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting at the kitchen table drawing in old copybooks with crayons and markers, winter nights on an island in the 1970's. Also, in primary school waiting for Friday afternoon for our 2 hours of art. I have been fortunate to grow up in one of the most, unique places in Ireland. Rich in culture and heritage but most of all in raw natural beauty.

The landscape is an ever-changing masterpiece, a canopy of colour from above and below. A violent windswept place at times and of calmness and serenity in others. A storytelling dreamscape. Here, in the West light is everything and every minute offers the soul a new experience, a feast for the imagination, an endless palette for thought and expression. It is this, which has inspired me to paint and bring you the West through my lense and perspective. It, like the weather is a changing one. To stay stagnant would be a pity.

I hope that you enjoy the journey. Cyril Ă“ Flaithearta
